Locating the Perfect Typing Job

Trying to locate the perfect typing job can be a little tedious or time consuming if you don’t know where to look. I’ll share with you some of my resources to help you find that typing job.

There are actually 2 types of typing jobs. The first one is a typing job that you can go and work in someone’s office for an hourly wage. Or if you are comfortable doing contract work, you could also get paid per the job or by the hour without any benefits. A lot of small companies are going the route using an outside contract to perform a lot of their typing job work. This gives you some freedom to work the hours you want around your own schedule.

The second type of typing job is working from home which I think would be the perfect typing job. This is also contract work but you can get hired by a company and either they email you your assignments or once a week you go to their office and pick up your assignments and return home to complete the work. You then can return the work back to them completed and get paid for your work via contract pay. You can complete the typing work on your own time and schedule.

With your typing skills, you could easily search for the perfect typing job via the Internet using the search engines or some very favorite classified sites. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in “typing job/your area” without quotes. Make sure you type in your specific city and state. You’ll be very surprised at how many jobs available in your line of work.

Transcription can provide you with many hours of typing work. Transcription is simply typing what’s dictated.

You don’t need to be a medical transcriptionist to provide transcription services. When speaking about transcription, people think about medical transcription.

In addition to medical professionals, a wide range of individuals and organizations outsource transcription services. Your clients may include insurance companies, universities, financial institutions, authors of books, consultants, focus groups and public speakers.

Business transcription does not require any knowledge of medical terminology.

If you are a business transcriptionist, medical transcriptionist, legal transcriptionist, be aware of the growing popularity of digital dictation and transcription. Although the majority of physicians and businesses are still using tapes to record dictation, many are starting to use digital voice recorders.

Here’s how digital dictation and transcription works: Your clients dictate into a handheld digital voice recorder, upload the files from their recorder to their computer with a USB cable, send an email message to a transcriptionist, and attach the digital files.

Digital transcription has many benefits for the transcriptionists. The audio quality is usually much better than tapes. You can move easier and faster to specific places in the dictation and you have more control over the playback speed. You don’t have to deal with pick-up and delivery of tapes.

When the medical transcriptionists receive the email, they can open the file and bring it into their computer with specialized software. They can convert the digital file to different formats, but the most popular file format is the “wav” format.

Specialized transcription software and a foot pedal allow the transcriptionist to move through the digital voice file just like you do when transcribing from a tape. After transcribing the files, the transcriptionist emails the finished work back to the client as an attachment.

The foot pedal is connected to your computer through the USB or serial port. A foot pedal that comes with a tape transcriber will not work. You also need an Internet connection, an email account, and a word processing software program such as Microsoft Word that will work with your digital file transcribing system.

Some foot pedals have the ability to convert files recorded on almost every type of digital handheld recorder. This allows you to perform transcription work for many clients, regardless of the type of digital voice recorder they use.

Why Choose a Virtual Assistant Versus a Temp?

So much to do… So little time. This is an all to familiar phrase to so many people, especially small business owners. There just never seems to be enough hours in the day to get all the revenue generating tasks done, not to mention the abundance of administrative tasks that seem to always be piling up.

For most, the only known alternative to doing the work yourself is to hire a temporary employee. This has always been how most have received help with their administrative overflow.

Well, not anymore. Now you can get help with office tasks from professional, self-employed Virtual Assistants (VAs).

But, why would you choose a VA over a temp? Well, there are many differences between the two … differences that we will cover here and that will point out the benefits and advantages of utilizing the services of a VA over the help of a temp.

1. Temporary employees (temps) are just that, temporary. They’re here today and may be gone tomorrow. A VA, on the other hand, is available on an ongoing basis or can be called upon, at short notice, when an extra pair of administrative hands is required.

2. VAs take a vested interest in the success of their clients and their businesses. VAs believe that the absolute best job possible will not only help their own reputation but will also help to build the client ’s business. The more successful the client is, the higher possibility of more work needing to be done by the VA or more referrals. A temp, however, may look at the assignment as just a means of padding their resume or getting a pay check.

3. Training and experience is also an issue when comparing VAs to temps. VAs are generally those that have had many, many years of experience out in the workforce. This knowledge, along with any additional training and schooling, allows them to provide a wide gambit of services, all of which they have had many years to perfect. VAs also tend to be more apt to upgrade their skills in order to provide their clients with the most up to date and professional services that they can possibly provide.

Temps, on the other hand, may be those that are right out of school with little or no ‘on the job’ experience, or those who are simply looking for something to fill their time. Not to mention, when a temp is hired, they have to be trained. Now, if that temp is not available when the next assignment crops up, another temp will have to be brought in and thus more time is needed to train that employee. And so on.

4. Now, let’s look at the rate differences. Actually, the two may seem similar in cost but not in other aspects. The rate paid to the temp is actually split between the temp and the agency that contracts them out. Then it must be taken into consideration the time the client needs to spend training the temp, the space used by him/her, and the equipment that is needed and requires maintenance.

A VA’s rates, comparatively, help to upgrade equipment, software and skills. This, in turn, allows for more and better services to be available for the client. It also means that the client doesn’t need to worry about providing space and maintaining equipment that a temp would need, which can get quite costly when in the hands of an inexperienced employee.

5. The next difference is to look at the types of clients that temps and VAs are most likely to be contracted by. Medium to large companies generally would call in a temp when they have enough work to keep them busy for an extended period of time or when the work involves specific duties that need to be handled in-house (i.e. reception). However, these companies may also have a need for the services of a VA when they have an occasional project that requires immediate, experienced attention or when they do not have the training time or equipment available for a temp.

Small business owners and SOHOs (Sole Owner Home Office) are most likely to need and utilize the services of a VA as opposed to bringing in a temp. The projects are usually varied and may be far between or not enough to keep an employee busy in-house. The completion of the project may also be hampered by the lack of space and equipment that would be necessary if a temp is brought in. It is unlikely they will ever use the services of a temp and they are more receptive to the idea of contracting a secretarial service.

6. VAs charge for the actual work they do, hour for hour, whereas a temp is paid for time worked and any time they sit idle, waiting for more work or another project to do.

7. And, unlike a temp who has loyalty to the agency they are contracted through, a VA is usually an entrepreneur and works with and for the client. As a fellow small business owner, a VA has a vested interest in the success of their client ’s business.

Although temporary agencies are more visible to the public, due to their increased size and marketing budgets, they are not the only answer to help alleviate the administrative overflow for both small and large businesses.

Now you may not be a typist or be able to type that fast or that accurately, for many evening typing jobs you can do from home this is not always a problem. Most people who have a computer surf the internet and send emails, well many jobs are no more complicated than that.

So let’s take a look at the sort of things you can start now. We want to stay away from anything that requires us to pay out before we even start working so here are some ideas to get you started.

You may well have seen those polls they always quote on the news, where do you think they get that information. That’s right, from people like you. If you don’t mind answering questions and giving your views there are lots of companies that will pay you to fill in surveys online.

What about being a mystery shopper, sure you will have to visit some stores and restaurants (consider this a paid excursion) but then you have to fill in some questions online. There are many of the mystery shopping restaurant opportunities where you can take the family so you can even turn it into a trip out.

There are numerous other tasks you can in the evenings from an internet connected computer where you will get paid. Most of these tasks involve you doing searches, viewing advertising and giving your opinions. Whilst your not going to get the sort of money you get from your day job you will accumulate money to be able to sort out those nagging bills or pay some money off the mortgage.
